Biosphere 2  (from a global community launch, overhyped science research, to a science joke)

Biosphere

Here is an image I uploaded earlier……Biosphere 2 .

Meant to be genuine scientific research. Unfortunately, it ended up a laughing stock within the scientific community.

Now sold to a land developer… prepared to remove yet another few hundred acres of pristine land for a quick profit…

It caused a major power cut in the Folkestone and Hythe area, which affected about 65,000 homes and businesses. The US Geological Survey measured the quake at 4.7 on the Richter Scale at a depth of 10km below the surface of the earth. Kent Fire and Rescue Service said it has taken more than 100 emergency calls since this morning. Officers are checking two incidents of chimneys being left in a dangerous position after the tremor. The tremor, which was felt in Canterbury and Ashford as well as on the coast at 8.18 am, lasted for little more than a second or two. It also set off  fire alarms across the region, which led to hotels and businesses being evacuated.  ( Richter Scale for 4.0 to 4.9: Noticeable shaking of indoor items, rattling noises. Significant damage unlikely. There are an estimated 6,200 quakes of this magnitude per year.) anim7_moll_world.gif
